Janet Kay Drake Des Moines - Janet Kay (Thornburg) Drake, 70, passed away on November 20, 2019 at MercyOne Hospice in Johnston. Janet was born November 7, 1949 in Knoxville, Iowa to Olive (Burnham) and Florian Thornburg. Janet was a 1968 graduate of Pleasantville High School. She enjoyed both basketball and softball. After briefly attending NE Missouri State, she moved to Des Moines to work where she met Tom Drake. In 1972, Janet and Tom were married and lived in Des Moines for 47 years. Janet worked at Vets Hospital for 30 years. She enjoyed the state fair, A&W root beer floats, Motown music, travel, game shows, and spending time with her family and friends. Janet is survived by her husband, Tom; daughters, Julie (Dave) Kain of Pelham, NY and Nicole Drake of Ankeny; grandson, Rye; and siblings, Robert Thornburg (Gigi Graf) of Windsor Heights and Shirley Thornburg of Des Moines. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Lloyd Thornburg. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m., Saturday, November 23, 2019 at Brooks Funeral Care in Clive.
