Ruth Hopper
Ruth F. Hopper passed away at age 92 following a brief illness. Ruth Ellen was born to Lisle C. Freshour and Marie Gregg Freshour in WaKeeney, KS. She grew up on a farm near Hays, KS and graduated from Fort Hays State College. While working at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., she met the love of her life, James B. Hopper of Princeton, KY. They married and settled in Birmingham, AL where they raised three children and were active members of St. John's United Methodist Church and later Leeds First UMC. Ruth was a retiree of BellSouth where she worked as a directory assistance operator. Ruth was also known for her artistic creativity in drawing, painting, fabric, needlework, and handmade greeting cards which she enjoyed sending to friends and family. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 62 years James, and sons-in-law, Michael Stewart and Donald Sanders. She is survived by her sister, Marilyn Schwertfeger; daughters, Jill Stewart and Janis Sanders; son, Jeffrey Hopper (Elaine Swobe); and three grandchildren, Nathan Stewart, Skye Stewart (Alex Nosnik), and Claire Stewart. A celebration of Ruth's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Sat. December 21, at Magnolia Trace Retirement Life Community, 1 Clubhouse Ave., Huntsville, AL 35802. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to the Magnolia Trace Employee Appreciation Fund for the compassionate care they provided. ( www.laughlinservice.com )
