Janet "Jewelene" Melvin-Thrasher, age 78, a lifelong resident of Destin, Florida, passed away on November 11, 2019. She was born January 13, 1941 and graduated Choctawhatchee High School in 1958. She worked for her parents at Jewel Melvin's Seafood Market and at Captain Jewel Melvin's Seafood Restaurant. Later on, she worked for Mary Anne Windes and retired, at the age of 76, from working with her cousins, Dewey and Nina Destin, at Dewey Destin's Seafood Restaurant Bayside. A lifelong believer in Jesus, Jewelene faithfully worshipped and served at Saint Andrews by-the-Sea Episcopal Church and Immanuel Anglican Church where she was an Elder, choir member, Tuesday morning Women's Prayer Circle member, as well a member of the Altar Guild. Jewelene is survived by her husband of 57 years, Joseph W. Thrasher, her son, Joseph Eric Thrasher, her daughter, Lisa Thrasher-Marshall and her husband John F. Marshall, Jr; her four grandchildren, Joseph Zachary Thrasher, John F. "Trey" Marshall, III and his wife Sarese Temple-Marshall, Eric Ramsey Thrasher and Kallie Jewel Thrasher. Thrasher, her sister Joyce Fogle, her sister Catherine Ward and her husband James M. Ward, Sr., as well as her nephew James M. "Jamie" Ward, Jr. Jewelene lived a modern-day fairytale with the love of her life, Joe. November 24, 2019 would have been their 58th wedding anniversary. She was much loved and will be greatly missed, but the impact she made on the lives of her family and all those who were fortunate enough to be touched by her life will never be forgotten. The celebration of her life will be held at Immanuel Anglican Church, located at 250 Indian Bayou Trail, Destin, Florida, on Saturday, November 23 at 11 a.m. There will be a reception immediately following. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in her name to Immanuel Anglican Church Altar Guild.
