In memory of
Leonidas William Zois
Leonidas William Zois 'A Friend To All' Leon will be remembered as a loving husband, devoted father and proud grandfather. He was a lifetime florist, decorated World War II Army veteran, Coast Guard Auxiliary commander, and a member of Ahepa Eureka Chapter and the American Legion. Leon passed away Nov. 11, 2019, Veteran's Day, in West Palm Beach. He lived his life to the fullest for 99 ½ years, just shy of his 100th Birthday. Leon was born in Newark, N.J., to the late William H. Zois and Athena (Settos) Zois. He was predeceased by his parents; his sister, Tina Skokos, and his brother, Spiro Zois. He is survived by the love of his life, Bessie (Chucales) Zois, whom he married Sept. 22, 1956. Together they raised four children, Peggy and William Capko, Athena Zois and her friend Alan, William L. Zois and Anthony L. Zois. Leon was so happy to spend time with his grandchildren, Anthony and Jade Bertolino, Elizabeth and Stephanie Ohanyan, William L. Zois, Jr., Gianna and Maria Zois. Leon, Bess and family enjoyed summers at Star Lake, N.Y., in the Adirondacks and was a West Palm Beach snowbird. Although he was a hard worker, Leon loved large family gatherings and parties; he loved to travel. Leon was always the man behind the camera, taking pictures of every event and place. Everywhere he went, he made lifelong friends, too many to mention, and was admired for his loyal friendship, generosity and understanding. Leon owned the Washington Florist, Newark, N.J., a family business started in 1906 by his father, William. He was a gentle soul who will be greatly missed by all who had the fortune of knowing him. God Blessed Leon and our family with a wonderful life. Visitation is on Friday, Nov. 15, 2019 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Ippolito-Stellato Funeral Home located at 425 Ridge Rd., Lyndhurst, N.J. 07071.
