Richard Holt Adams Sr.
Richard Holt Adams, Sr. of Destin passed away on November 11, 2019. He was born on March 6,1932 to Claude Swanson Adams and Maude Furgurson Adams in Danville, Virginia. After serving in the U.S. Army, Richard attended Virginia Tech earning a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. During his professional career he held positions in the Space industry with General Dynamics, Martin, and Boeing. He was part of the great team of engineers who were part of the Apollo Space program, where one of the most memorable moments was the first man landing on the moon in July 1969. After the Apollo missions he joined Tennessee Valley Authority to help build the first nuclear power plant in Tennessee. Richard, who went by the name of Dick, was not all work and no play. Dick loved running and competed in many races. He also loved scuba diving in his younger years, snow skiing, camping, boating, and golfing. He was a kind loving husband, father and grandfather. He will surely be missed. He is survived by his wife, June Adams, daughter Sandra Kupperman, sons Holt, Jeff, and Rodney Adams, grandchildren Laura, Nathan, David, Colin, Blake, Kate, Haley, Andrea, and Peyton, great granddaughter Madeline, and sister Ann Parkinson. The memorial service to celebrate his life will take place at 2pm on Sunday, November 17th at the Village Baptist Church located in Destin, Florida.
