In memory of
Cornelius J. (Neil) Murphy
Cornelius J. 'Neil' Murphy Former NYPD member and bar owner,'was humble and fun loving' Cornelius J. (Neil) Murphy passed away on Monday Nov. 11, 2019, at his home of 49 years in the West Brighton area of Staten Island. Neil was born May 18, 1944, to Cornelius and Loretta (Fritz) Murphy in Stapleton, where he grew up. From 1970 to 1981 he served as a dignified member of NYPD. After retirement he owned and operated local Stapleton bar 'McNeils' from 1989 to 1992 and then 'Bottomleys' from 1992 to 2002. His businesses left such a legacy, most customers became friends and remained so to this day. A man as humble and fun loving as him will always be remembered by those of us who knew and loved him. Although we will miss him, his smile and just hanging out with him, we take consolation in the good feelings of our memories. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Linda (Jensen) Murphy, along with their four children and two son-in-laws, Stephen, Colleen and her husband Mike, Neil, Katie and her husband Jay. He also leaves behind 11 grandchildren, ranging in age from 1 to 28, three great-grandchildren, lots of nieces and two nephews by his two surviving brothers, Jack and Joe Murphy. Visiting is on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Harmon Funeral Home, 571 Forest Ave., S.I., N.Y. Mass of Christian Burial is on Friday at 10 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament R.C. Church. Entombment is in Moravian Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to Vietnam Vets, P.O. Box 41062 Staten Island, N.Y. 10304 would be greatly appreciated by his family. Harmon Funeral Home 571 Forest Ave. Staten Island, N.Y. 10310 (718) 442-5056
