In memory of
Purwin, John John Isidore Purwin, age 91 of Comstock Park, passed away on Thursday, November 7, 2019. John was born on August 14, 1928, the son of Joseph and Julia (Laskowski) Purwin. He graduated from Catholic Central High School and was a Veteran of the United States Army serving in Thule, Greenland during the Korean War. John enjoyed automobiles and racing and was the track champion in the inaugural season at the Speedrome in Comstock Park. He was known as a man who could fix anything and worked for many years as an engineer. He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia (Sheehy) Purwin in 2010; and his brothers, Bert and Joseph Purwin and his sister Helen Purwin Surviving are his children, Kathy (Dan) King, Stephen Purwin (Karen Maczka), Timothy (Amy) Purwin, Thomas Purwin, Paul Purwin, Julie Purwin, and Brian Purwin; his grandchildren, Katie and Ryan King, Shane Maczka, and Bregan Purwin; his great grandchildren, James King and Genevieve King; and his lifelong special friends - the Whiff and Whoofers. A Mass of Christian Burial for John will be celebrated at 10:00am on Wednesday, November 13, 2019 at St Isidore Catholic Church, 628 Diamond Ave NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49503 with Fr. Don Lomasiewicz presiding. Visitation will take place from 2-4pm and 6-8pm on Tuesday, November 12, 2019 at the Pederson Funeral Home, 127 N Monroe Street in Rockford. The Rosary will be prayed on Tuesday evening in the funeral home at 7:30pm. Interment will take place in Holy Trinity Cemetery. The family would like to give big thanks to the staff at St. Mary's Lacks 3 for the Pause and loving care for John.
