Gorel Anna Birgitta Kinersly
Gorel Anna Birgitta Kinersly 1930 - 2019 Our dear mother and Mormor Gorel (nee Martin) passed away in late October in her beloved adopted state of Oregon at age 89. Born in Stockholm Sweden, Mother arrived in the United States in the early 1950s to work as a lab tech at Yale University. She met the love of her life, Thorn, at Yale. They married Oct 6, 1954. After daughter Lisa was born, they moved to Thorn's home state of Oregon and settled in Salem. Son Thorn M. and daughter Sara arrived soon after. The family moved to Portland in 1970. Mother was a weaver, spinner, knitter and quilter. For many years, she was an active hiker, walker, skier and Nordic dancer. She enjoyed cooking and baking, especially foods from her Swedish heritage. Christmas was always beautiful, with Advent, Lucia and Julbord traditions. Mother was preceded in death by her brother, Roland; and daughter, Sara. She is survived by husband, Thorn; daughter, Lisa (Dale); son, Thorn M.; grandchildren, Erik, Adrian, Emma and Jamie; sisters, Elisabeth and Anna Kristina; and cousins, nieces and nephews in Sweden and the United States. Services will be held Saturday, Nov. 16, 2019, at Riverview Cemetery (503-246-6488, riverviewcemeteryfuneralhome.com ). Remembrances to Nordia Northwest, the Nature Conservancy, Friends of the Columbia Gorge or Oregon Public Broadcasting. Rest In peace dear Mormor.
