In memory of
James Garrett Koedyker
James Garrett Koedyker James Garrett Koedyker was born on May 16, 1946 in Gary, Indiana to parents Earl and Nancy Koedyker, and sister Sally. He died on November 3,2019, in Indio California. He is survived by his wife Cherie, daughter Kristen Leffler (Tim), son David ( Jackie), and three grandchildren—Natalie, Ezekiel and Kate. When he was in grade school, Jim's family moved briefly to Indio and then on to Fresno, California where Jim graduated from McLane High School, and attended Fresno State for 2 years. He transferred up to college in the Bay Area, where he wooed and married Cherie Whittlesey in 1968. They were married for 51 years. Jim graduated from Western Oregon University in Monmouth with a degree in Criminal Justice, then he accepted a position as a probation officer back in Indio. Soon, he was recruited by Indio Police Department to run a crime-prevention & child safety program. He then went on to other positions in the public and private sector—always working with children and youth. He served over 25 years on the Desert Sands Unified School District. He was a life-long faithful follower of Jesus. The Koedyker family has worshipped faithfully for decades at Southwest Church , where Jim delighted in teaching children, some as young as 2 years old. Jim was gifted with a charismatic personality and was famous for his Robin Williams-esque spontaneous witty banter. Always fun to be around, he provided many moments of hearty laughter for rooms full of people. Jim was proud to be a 3-time cancer survivor. But in 2017, he met the cancer that caused his death. Although in constant pain for the last two years of his life, he took delight in being around his family and wide circle of friends. His greatest joys were the grandchildren, whose presence always buoyed his spirits. A celebration of Jim's life will be at Southwest Church 44-175 Washington St, Indian Wells, CA 92210 on Saturday, November 9, 2019, 11:00 AM
