Robert Frank "Bob" Updyke
Robert "Bob" Frank Updyke Palm Desert - Robert "Bob" Frank Updyke of Palm Desert passed away peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday October 16, 2019. Bob was born June 15, 1924 in Fullerton CA to Melbra M. and Frank L. Updyke. He grew up in Southern California, attending Fullerton High School where he was senior class president in 1942. He entered the Navy in 1943 and served in WW2. Through the Navy, he studied engineering at Caltech and later USC. Bob worked for 35 years in the Aerospace industry and earned degrees in Mechanical, Electrical and Atomic Engineering. He also attained a Secondary Teaching Credential, a General Contractor License, and a Realtor License in California. He enjoyed vacationing in the Sierra Nevada mountains and camping in California's many beautiful areas. He instilled a love of the outdoors into his children; he hunted and fished as long as he was physically able. He was an active member of the Palm Desert Shriners and the Palm Desert Elks Club. Bob is preceded in death by his wife Doris Lorraine (Johnson) Updyke. He is survived by his three living children, Timothy V. Updyke, William F. Updyke and Jill D. (Updyke) Lee and extended family including five grandchildren and one great grandson. He is preceded in death by his children Daniel R. Updyke and Julie A. (Updyke) Ruggles, and his former wife Marian C. (Dodge) Updyke. A memorial and celebration of his life will be held in Fullerton at a future date.
