In memory of
Evelyn Hite Evelyn Young Hite, known affectionately to her grandchildren as "Uma," died October 3, after a long illness. She was 90. Born in Nashville, TN, Evelyn was the daughter of Wille Mae Petty and Paschall Hancock Young, Sr. A graduate of Goodlettsville High School, she then attended MTSU. In 1954, Evelyn married Durand Bartley Hite, Jr. after he completed a tour in the Air Force during the Korean War. A doting mother of three, Evelyn worked as a bookkeeper before devoting herself full-time to her husband and children. She was an excellent seamstress, an outstanding cook, and an avid bridge player. To her children she was both quiet and strong, unassuming and stoic—the glue that held the family together. Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, by her parents and her brother Paschall Hancock Young, Jr. She is survived by her brother David Petty Young, and three children: Mary Ann Reed (Mac) Daniel Hite (Paiden); and Claire Jenkins. Surviving grandchildren are Mac and Daniel Reed, Virginia and George Hite, and Wesley and Madeline Jenkins. A service will be held in her honor on Saturday, November 9 at 11 a.m. in the chapel at Westminster Presbyterian Church with visitation at 10 a.m. The family would like to thank the staff at Brookdale of Belle Meade for their loving care of our wonderful and beloved Uma. Contributions may be made to Alive Hospice Nashville.
