Gina Lupo, 101 Staten Island centenarian, grandmother of two Gina Lupo (nee Reposi) passed away at her home on Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2019. She was 101 years old. She resided in the area of Emerson Hill, Staten Island, with her daughter, Laura Simmons; her son-in-law, Michael Simmons, and her granddaughter, Theresa Simmons. Gina was born on Leroy St., Manhattan, and moved to Staten Island at age nine. She was one of the first graduates of P.S. 48, Concord. She did not graduate high school due to the Depression. Instead, she went to work as a milliner in Manhattan, making hats for many prestigious department stores. She worked until 1954, when her daughter Laura was born. Gina married Joseph Lupo in 1946, and they were married for 36 years, until Joseph's death in 1982. Gina's hobbies included knitting, sewing, cooking, baking, crossword puzzles, and painting. She is survived by her brother, Albert Reposi; her niece, Karen Seidman; her daughter, Laura Simmons, and two grandchildren, Christine Simmons and Theresa Simmons. Services are being handled by Virginia Funeral Chapel at Casey Funeral Home, 350 Slosson Ave., Exit 12 on S.I. Expressway. Visitation times are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 28. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Sylvester's Church, 856 Targee St., Tuesday, Oct. 29, at 10 a.m., followed by burial at Moravian Cemetery.
