Joan Balsamo
Joan Balsamo Avid traveler who visited 17 countries, community volunteer Joan Balsamo, the former Joan Zutlas, of Lithuanian descent, a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grand mother, passed on Oct. 2, 2019, after a long illness from complications of COPD. Joan was an avid traveler who saw 17 countries as well as traveled the United States with her sister, Blanche Haertsch, who, at 93 years old, is still traveling. In addition to her sister, Joan is survived by her son, Steven Balsamo, his four children, and his five grandchildren. She is also survived by her daughter, Joan Ricks, and her two children, five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Joan was a stay-at-home mom while her children were young, then joined the New York Stock Exchange for 15 years. After retirement, Joan volunteered at the Stapleton Senior Citizen Center and also for the Bea Victor Senior Olympics. She will be missed by her family and friends. Funeral is on Sunday at Harmon Funeral Home, 571 Forest Ave., West Brighton Staten Island. Funeral service is at 6 p.m. at the funeral Home.
