Bette Sue (Sherman) Hulin
HENRY - Bette Sue (Sherman) Hulin, 77, of Henry, died at 2:20 a.m. Sept. 27, 2019, at her daughter's home in Texas, surrounded by her family who loved her so much. She was diagnosed in November 2018 with a glioblastoma brain tumor and fought a courageous battle for the past 10 months. Bette was born June 19, 1942, in Galesburg, to Esther and Maurice Sherman, who preceded her in death. She is survived by her daughter Heidi Hulin of Euless, Texas; daughter LuAnn Tarango, son-in-law, Ken Tarango and grandson Garrett Tarango of Dallas; sister, Barb Lane of Knoxville; nephew, Steve Lane of Victoria; niece, Susan Smith of Victoria; and cousins, Harvey (Sharon) Ponder, Hattie (Jim) Jacobs, Jack (Sharon) Samuelson and Roger (Penny) Samuelson. Bette had so many wonderful, lifelong friends in Illinois, as well as those she enjoyed companionship with in Florida each year. She began her career at the BF Goodrich plant in Henry in 1978. She was one of the few employees who saw the company change ownership many times over the years and retired from Mexichem at the age of 75 after 39 years of service. She had so much pride in what she did and truly cared about the employees and their families and never said no to lending a helping hand. In the community, she was involved with the River Valley Players Theatre for 42 years, annual Race for the Cure walk, United Way Campaign and the Marshall-Putnam Fair Board from 2004 to 2017. She greeted many citizens from the surrounding area each year as they entered the grandstand at the annual Marshall-Putnam Fair. Doing jigsaw and word search puzzles, helping plan parties and being engaged in projects and organizations with her daughters and grandson brought her great joy. Her annual vacation to Florida in the winter was a highlight for her where she celebrated the sun and fun with her friends and family. Bette's family will host an informal reception from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 20, 2019, at J.E. Foust Funeral Home in Grapevine, Texas. A celebration of life will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 23, 2019, at The Oaks Community Church in Dahinda, followed by a luncheon and graveside service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to River Valley Players, St. John XXII Center, 1302 Second St., Henry, IL 61537, or The Oaks Community Church, 1868 Congregation Road, Dahinda, IL, 61428. Online condolences may be made at www.foustandsonfuneralhome.com. J.E. Foust Funeral Home, Grapevine, is in charge of arrangements. Cremation rites will be accorded with inurnment in the Victoria Cemetery in Victoria next to her parents.
