Sellman, Dorothy 6/27/1945 - 9/24/2019 Manchester, MI Sellman, Dorothy (Dottie) Diane 6/27/1945 - 9/24/2019 of Manchester, MI. Dottie passed away late Tuesday morning with daughter, Erin, by her side. She was born in Dublin, Ireland and came to the United States in 1954. Dottie grew up in Lakewood, Ohio and went to Indiana University. She received her Masters in Education from Eastern Michigan University. Dottie taught everything from pre-school to high school as well as worked as an editor for the University of Michigan. She spent the better part of her career teaching English and humanities in Ypsilanti and she loved her work. After she retired, Dottie enjoyed traveling with her partner, John, and spoiling her grandchildren. She was a regular volunteer at the animal shelter in Ludington before she moved downstate. She enjoyed great food and found friendships wherever she went. She is survived by her daughters, Erin Sellman (Carlos Paz) and Andrea Sellman, her partner John Hutchings, and her grandchildren Blake Tapia, Levi Vogel, Truman Vogel and Leo Paz. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Thomson. A celebration of her life with family and friends will take place at Mediterrano Restaurant in Ann Arbor on October 19, 2019, from 3-5 PM. People are welcome to stop in to visit during those hours. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting memorial contributions in her name to the Humane Society of Huron Valley ( hshv.org/give ). Dottie will be remembered for her quick wit, humor and intelligence. She will be dearly missed.
