Odessa A. Matthews
Odessa A. Matthews Beloved wife and devoted mother; registered nurse Odessa A. Matthews, 91, made her transition on Sept. 3, 2019. Born in Newark, N.J., Mrs. Matthews was a resident of East Orange, N.J., for 30 years and a former resident of Manhattan for 60 years. She was a registered nurse at Interchurch Center in New York. She was the beloved wife of the late Human Matthews, devoted mother of Kenneth and Mark Matthews, Robin Matthews-Brown and the late Byron Matthews. She was the dear daughter of the late James and Pearl McDonald, loving sister of Jasper McDonald and the late Marie Hunt, James and Carl McDonald. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends. A celebration of her life will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. John UME Church, 142 Maple Ave., Newark. Visitation is Thursday at 9 a.m. until time of service at church. Interment is private. Arrangements are by Whigham Funeral Home.
