Audrey Judith Benjamin, 83 Loving mother and grandmother was an avid athlete Audrey Judith Benjamin, 83, loving mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully in her Staten Island home on Sept. 8, 2019. She was born on Nov. 10, 1935, in Brooklyn. A graduate of Erasmus Hall High School in Brooklyn, Audrey was happily married to her husband Jack for 65 years. After marrying, they lived in Brooklyn before moving to Staten Island In 1972. Audrey worked for more than 25 years as a school secretary for the NYC Board of Education at Dreyfus Intermediate School 49 in Stapleton. An avid athlete, Audrey was a regional racewalker for the East Side Track Club, where she competed and won many awards. In 1986, she won a gold medal in the racewalk at the New York Empire State Games. Audrey also volunteered at the New York Marathon along with other New York Road Runner events and at local events for the Staten Island Athletic Club. Her oldest son, Seth, died in 2008. Besides her husband Jack, Audrey is survived by her son, Jeff; daughter-in-law, Roseann; and grandchildren, Brianna and Amanda Rose. A graveside service will be held at Beth-Israel Cemetery, Woodbridge, N.J., today, Sept. 10, at 11 a.m. Donations in Audrey's memory can be respectfully sent to the Caregiver Support Center at the JCC of Staten Island.
