In memory of
Anthony G. "Tony" Maratea
Anthony G. 'Tony' Maratea, 95 WWII veteran, McKee High School teacher, grandfather of 15 Anthony G. Maratea, of Todt Hill, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 8, 2019. Tony was born in Rosebank, Staten Island, resided in Arrochar, and graduated from New Dorp High School in 1942. He then joined the U.S. Navy, training to become a naval aviator. In 1944, he shipped out to the South Pacific and spent time in China and many South Pacific islands. After his Naval service, he graduated from Champlain College in Plattsburgh, N.Y., and Wagner College, with bachelor's and master's degrees in education. He then began a 35-year teaching career, including over 30 years at McKee High School, St. George, as a beloved social studies teacher. Tony was a devoted husband who was married for 60 happy years to his loving wife Norma. Together, they built a home on Todt Hill, raising six children who loved him immensely: Anthony (Shy), Danielle Edmondson (Tim), Andrea Lanausse (Freddie), Mike (Tara), Marc (Beth), and Adrienne Crowder (Harvey). Tony was predeceased by his parents, Anthony (Dr.) and Pearl, and his sisters, Florrie and Muriel. Tony was an avid model railroader and history and aviation buff who enjoyed gardening, birding, and travel throughout the U.S. and Europe. A family man to the end, he most loved spending time with his wife, children, 15 grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews, especially at their Staten I sland home presiding over large family dinners enjoying Norma's Italian cooking, and at their cabin on Lake Champlain. He will be dearly missed by all. Visitation will be held at Casey Funeral Home, 350 Slosson Ave., on Wednesday, Sept. 11, from 7 to 9 p.m., and Thursday, Sept. 12, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral service is at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 13, at St. Sylvester's R.C. Church, Concord. Casey Funeral Home 350 Slosson Ave. Staten Island, N.Y. 10314 (718) 447-4242
