William John Bok
Bok, William John Grand Rapids, MI William John Bok entered his heavenly home on Saturday, September 7, 2019, straight into the arms of Jesus, at the age of 81, after an eight-month battle with cancer. Bill was born in 1937 in Grand Rapids, MI. He grew up here, started his career as a lineman for Michigan Bell Telephone, a subsidiary of AT&T. He was promoted and transferred to Lansing, MI, then later promoted again and transferred to St. Joseph, MI, then transferred back to Grand Rapids where he worked until his retirement after 35 and a half years working for a company he loved. Bill loved hunting and being in the woods looking for deer. He loved hunting pheasants in South Dakota. He went fishing in Canada with his friend Bill Swartz. He loved the outdoors and Northern Michigan and enjoyed traveling extensively with his wife Lucy. He enjoyed a lengthy retirement, particularly his last years as part of the Cook Valley community. He was a long-time member of Calvary Church. God was the head of our home and we raised our sons knowing and loving God. He is survived by his wifeof one month shy of 61 yearsLucille; sons Scott (Roxanne) Bok and Steve (Lynnell) Bok; grandchildren Elliot and Jane Bok, Justin, and Trevor Swart; sisters Kay (Dick) VanHouten, Ruth (Doug) VanDyke, and Lucille Maloley; brothers-in-law David Kennedy, Dennis, Dick, and Dale Kennedy; sisters-in-law Susie Kennedy, Karan and Vicki; and many nieces and nephews. The memorial service will be Tuesday, Sept. 17, 11 AM, at Zaagman Memorial Chapel, 2800 Burton St. SE. Friends and relatives may greet the family at the chapel on Monday, Sept. 16, 4-7 PM and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday from 10-11 AM. For those who wish, memorial contributions may be given to Mel Trotter Ministries, 225 Commerce Ave. SW, GR MI 49503, or Paralyzed Veterans of America, 801 Eighteenth St. NW, Washington DC 20006.
