John Marks Burks
John Mark Burks, age 67, of Homewood, AL passed away on Friday, August 30, 2019. He was born November 28, 1951, in Choccolocco, Alabama, son of the late Rev. Gilbert and Hilda Burks. He grew up in Albertville, Alabama. John graduated from University of Alabama with a J.D. in 1976. After receiving his J.D. he worked as an attorney, then a partner with DeCosmo & Company CPA firm in Chattanooga Tennessee. In 1996 he moved to Birmingham, Alabama as tax trust department manager with Regions Bank. He retired in 2002. He loved studying the Bible, playing board games with his family, and Alabama football. He was active in Vestavia Hills and Shannon Churches of Christ. Surviving are his three sons, Christopher (Elizabeth Baker), Perry and Trevor Burks from Birmingham; brother, David Burks, of Tucson, Arizona; and sister, Mary Burks (Bruce Rogers) and niece and nephew Jordan and Joshua Price of Louisville, Kentucky. Friends are invited for a commemorative gathering honoring his life on Monday, September 9, 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Aldridge Gardens, 3530 Lorna Rd, Hoover, AL 35216. A private family memorial service will be held following the gathering with Vance Drum officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the American Brain Tumor Association or the charity of your choice.
