GALESBURG - Doris (Thurman) Kokes, 99, Galesburg, died at 11:05 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 11, 2019. She was born Dec. 1, 1919, in Galesburg, the daughter of Guy and Ruth Adeline Hurt Thurman. She married Frank A. Kokes on Sept. 17, 1940, in Davenport, Iowa. He preceded her in death on Nov. 4, 2007. Doris is survived by her niece, Kay Busch, and great-nephew, Patrick Busch, both of Galesburg; and her niece Barbara Zinn of Ft. Wayne, Indiana. Also surviving are 10 nieces and nephews and 19 great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; her two brothers, Robert and George Thurman; and her niece, Connie Dennis. Doris owned and operated KT Auto Parts with her husband for many years. She was a member of First Baptist Church. Doris was a longtime avid Cubs fan. She enjoyed ballroom dancing and playing the organ. She graduated from Galesburg High School in 1937. Private graveside service will be held in East Linwood Cemetery.
