John W. Witmer of Halifax (Carsonville), Pa. passed away Thursday, August 8, 2019 at UPMC Harrisburg Hospital. He was born February 25, 1940 at Wiconisco Twp. to the late Charles C. and Fern A. Snyder Witmer. John was an Army Reserve Veteran and a Charter Member and Past Fire Chief of the Carsonville Vol. Fire Company where he served for 45 years, a member of St. James Church, Carsonville and Board Member of the Halifax Meals on Wheels. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a Steelers and Yankees fan. John is survived by his wife of 59 years Mattie J. Luzier Witmer, a daughter Brenda S. Osman and husband Dave, grandchildren Alicia and Andrew, a brother Daniel Witmer and a sister Dorothy Strohm. In addition to his parents John was preceded in death by a brother Charles. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 14, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. from St. James Church, 3502 Powells Valley Rd., Halifax, Pa. 17032 (Carsonville). There will be a viewing from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in John's name to his church at the above address or to Carsonville Vol. Fire Co., 2990 Powells Valley Rd., Halifax, Pa. 17032.
