Dirk Vantoorenburg
Dirk Vantoorenburg Dirk Vantoorenburg passed away on July 9, 2019, at the age of 83. He was preceded this same year by his beloved wife, Johanna, to whom he was married for over 60 years. Dirk will be lovingly remembered by his children, Anita "Conny," Sue (Paul) and Steve (Robin). Opa is loved and remembered by his seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Dirk was born in Indonesia and survived Japanese occupation during World War II. As a young man, he moved to the Netherlands where he met his future wife, Johanna. After marrying Johanna and having their first child, Conny, the family emigrated from Holland to the United States. As a young father, Dirk worked hard painting houses for $1 an hour. He later received jobs at Bausch & Lomb and Kodak. Ever the achiever and family provider, he went to night school at Rochester Institute of Technology and obtained his electrical engineering degree. Dirk loved the outdoors, animals and classical music. He will be dearly missed. Dirk will be buried in East Bloomfield Cemetery next to his beloved wife Johanna and son Richard.
