Richard Allen Goldsmith
Goldsmith, Richard Allen age 80, went to be with his Lord on Thursday, August 8, 2019. He was preceded in death by his parents Marlon and Flora Goldsmith. He will be remembered by his wife, Sue Goldsmith; children Glenn (Patricia) Goldsmith, Laurie (David) Hix, and Nathan (Laura) Goldsmith; 13 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sister, Phyllis DeRight; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Following graduation from Vicksburg High School, Richard joined the United States Air Force and was stationed in Germany as a Russian analyst. Upon returning home, he attended Western Michigan University, studying petroleum distribution. After graduation, Richard became a salesman for the Shell Oil Corporation. Heeding God's call, he enrolled in seminary classes at Grand Rapids Baptist Seminary and then joined the United States Army as a chaplain serving in Vietnam. Following Vietnam, Richard served on various posts across the country. Richard retired from the United States Army as a Lieutenant Colonel Chaplain after 20 years of service. He continued to counsel individuals and couples, in his retirement, at his home in Martin, Michigan, then later in Grandville before completely retiring in 2013. Visitation with relatives and friends will be held from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday, August 11, 2019 at Cook Funeral Home (West building), 4235 Prairie St. SW, Grandville, MI 49418. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, August 12, 2019 at Georgetown Bible Church, 4114 Baldwin, Hudsonville, MI 49426. Pastor Garry Koon will be officiating. Interment is at Georgetown Cemetery. In honor of Richard and in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Wounded Warrior Project.
