In memory of
Robert Bernard Alverson
Robert was the youngest of 6 children of Rev. Lonnie and Bessie Alverson. After graduating, he served his country and honored family legacy by serving in the army during the Korean War. While working at Hayes Aircraft after discharge, he met his true love, Martha (2013). They married in 1960. Robert is survived by daughters Robin Walker (Randy) and Valerie Haddix (Mark) and grandchildren Adrienne Walker, Griffin Walker, Jackson Piazza & Dalton Haddix. Robert worked 34 yrs for the US Postal Service where he had numerous close friends. He was devoted to his family and spending time with them. He delighted in taking Martha square dancing at least once a week for nearly 45 yrs. He served as an officer in several square dance clubs and for the BSDA. He was a Mason and member of the West Hills Lions Club. A lifetime active Methodist, each Sunday for 15 yrs he greeted guests and members with a warm smile, firm handshake, and a twinkle in his eye as an usher at Vestavia Hills United Methodist. He remained socially active as long as possible, enjoying New Merkle Senior Center friends. Like many, he sought new places-especially if on his Harley Davidson; but he was quick to return home where he was happiest. He passed on a love of family, learning, striving for perfection, tinkering & yard work to his girls. He leaves a legacy of Christ's peace to all he knew. Sun, Jul 14, 1 pm closed casket visitation, 2 pm service, Elmwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to choice organizations: American Cancer Society, New Merkle Senior Center or Scouts BSA.
