Mavis Maton Horton Johnson
Mavis Maton Horton Johnson of Southport, Florida, passed away Saturday, July 6, 2019, in her home surrounded by her family. She was in the care of Emerald Coast Hospice at the time. She was born to Savanna Stephenson Horton and Harvey Green Horton on August 19, 1927, in Angier, North Carolina. She married her childhood sweetheart Luther D Johnson on August 28, 1943. She and Luther raised three children while travelling during his twenty-year Naval career. They moved from North Carolina to Southport after his retirement to be near their children. Mavis loved to sew, garden, and read. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Southport and was very involved in her Sunday School class. She was preceded in death by her husband Luther. She is survived by her sons Daniel Ray Johnson and wife Laura of Lynn Haven, Ronald D Johnson and girlfriend Stephanie Gerard of Southport, and her daughter Debbie Johnson Ayscue and husband Don of Raleigh, North Carolina. She is also survived by five grandchildren. A celebration of life will be held at the First Baptist Church of Southport located at 1732 Bridge Street in Southport on Saturday, July 13, 2019 at 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Emerald Coast Hospice or the charity of your choice. Affordable Funeral Care is in charge of the arrangements.
