Leonard M. Goldberg
Leonard M. Goldberg Nov. 5, 1930 - July 5, 2019 Leonard Goldberg died Friday, July 5, 2019, from complications of dementia. He was surrounded by his loving and devoted wife Dolly, in their seventh decade of marriage, his three children and three grandchildren. Leonard's life centered on giving to and caring for his local community in Portland, as well as the community of Jews around the world, especially Israel, which he and Dolly deeply supported. After graduating Reed College, Leonard went on to earn his MD from U of O Medical School, then met and married Dolly during his residency program at Mount Zion Hospital in San Francisco. The couple moved back to Portland to raise a family, where Michelle, Ken and Jerry were born. During his 60 year career as a physician, Leonard became Chief of Cardiology at Portland's Emanuel Hospital, where he mentored many young doctors and nurses and was chosen as the cardiologist-on-call for three U.S. presidents. Leonard was a Godly man, an observant Jew and prided himself on treating clergy members of all religions without charge. He was a leader in his synagogue, served as president of the Jewish Federation of Portland and a board member of many charitable organizations. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, July 9, 2019, at Congregation Shaarie Torah Cemetary, at 8013 S.E. 67th Avenue, Portland, 97206.
