In memory of
James H. ‘Jim’ Glenn Jr.
Nov. 26, 1934 – July 4, 2019 James H. Glenn Jr., 84, of Lynn Haven, Florida, a patriotic American and disabled Vietnam War veteran, passed away on the Fourth of July, 2019. Mr. Glenn was born on Nov. 26, 1934, and raised in Grafton, West Virginia. He joined the U.S. Air Force at age 17 and became a top-level jet mechanic. He served his country in bases across the world, including England, France, Greenland, Thailand and Vietnam. He also was stationed in many bases in the United States, but fell in love with Panama City, Florida, when stationed at Tyndall Air Force Base and decided to retire there after more than 20 years of service. After retiring, he quickly joined the U.S. Postal Service and spent 31 years in that career before hanging up his mailbag. He was a loving and doting husband, father and grandfather who was deeply devoted to his family. Extremely generous and friendly, he always was willing to drop everything he was doing to help someone in need. There was nothing he couldn't fix - jets, vehicles, refrigerators, washers, dryers, air conditioners - and he loved to tinker in his garage. He was a die-hard Florida State fan who loved to watch his Seminoles play football, whether in Tallahassee, Florida, or on the road. He was the elder statesman of the tailgating group on "The Hill" across from the Westcott Building on the FSU campus and was fondly called "Dad" by all the younger generations. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Frances H. Glenn; two sons, Mark Glenn of Vernon, Florida, and Ray Glenn and wife Karen of Panama City, Florida; a daughter, Lauren Leach and husband Tim of Panama City, Florida; two grandsons, Christopher Glenn of Panama City, and Michael Glenn and wife Kayla of Freeport, Florida; a granddaughter, Alyssa Leach of Panama City; a step-grandson, Timothy Morris of Lynn Haven; and two great-granddaughters, Piper Glenn and Peyton Glenn, both of Freeport. A celebration of life service will begin at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, July 11, 2019, at the City Church annex, 756 Airport Road, Panama City. Please feel free to wear casual FSU attire, per his request. Food will be served following the service, courtesy of his family and the "Veranda Park Gang" from SweetBay. Affordable Funeral Care is handling cremation services.
