In memory of
Kathleen Childress Palm Desert - On Monday, May 6, 2019, Kathleen Childress, loving mother and wife, passed away quietly in her home at the age of 98. Kathleen was born on April 3, 1921 in Los Angeles to Grace and John Kelly. She graduated high school and worked as a model and make-up artist at Max Factor in Hollywood. On November 8, 1947, she married her first husband, William Hardwick, and together they raised their daughter, Irene. After William's passing in 1978, Kathleen moved from her Hollywood Hills home to Wilshire Boulevard in West Los Angeles, where she eventually met Hubert Childress. Kathleen and Hubert moved to Palm Desert and they married on March 8, 1988. Kathleen enjoyed her life in the desert. She possessed a deep sense of spirituality and became active in the Science of Mind Church, where she studied and eventually became an ordained minister. She also was an advocate for the mentally disabled, and volunteered as a docent at the Living Desert. Kathleen loved the arts and reading. She was known for her quick wit and laughter, and especially for her spry, get-up-and-go-spirit. Kathleen was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert, and her brother, Edward. She is survived by her daughter Irene, granddaughter Kelli, great-grandson Rudy, niece Nancy, and nephew John. The family will hold a private memorial.
