In memory of
Joanne Gageby
Joanne Gageby - - Joanne Gageby, with her husband Jim at her side, went to be with our Lord on June 10, 2019 at Eisenhower Medical Center following a cerebral stroke. Joanne had suffered from multiple medical issues and had bravely confronted all of them. She was born in Flint Michigan on August 4, 1936, to Jouzef and Helene Nowak who, with sisters Lorraine (Dolly) and Genevieve, precede her passing. Joanne was a Registered Nurse for nearly 20 years, having graduated from Nazareth College in Nazareth, MI., in 1957. After her final nursing gig in the ICU at Cedars in Los Angeles she went into private in-home celebrity nursing. She then responded to a Farmers Insurance ad looking for help interpreting medical reports. That led to a new career away from hospitals and nursing. Working for Farmers she obtained her Bachelor of Science degree, Medical Major, from Chapman College, then became a Chartered Underwriter for Farmers, and then a Farmers Insurance Branch Manager. Joanne and Jim met in the desert on January 21, 2000 and were married one year later. They traveled to many places here and abroad. Their primary goal was to play as many golf courses as possible, and they did so. Annual trips to Maui were a major highlight, but trips to Italy were most memorable. Her travel was curtailed by the effects of her illnesses starting in 2013. A devout Catholic Joanne's persistence was a driving force allowing husband Jim to be received into the Faith. He made his First Holy Communion at Sacred Heart Church with Joanne at his side. Following this she and Jim both served as Eucharistic Ministers there until stepping down last year. Joanne led a wonderful earthly life and is now in pain free Paradise dancing to polka music with her sisters. Monsignor Howard Lincoln administered last rights for Joanne, absolving her of her sins on June 6, 2019. Joanne is survived by her niece Yvonne Taylor (John), step-daughters Tammie Cannon, Jamie Hansen (Gary), Heather (Tim), 7 step-grandchildren, RJ, Stephanie, Monte, Riley, Steven, James and Madison, and 3 step-great grandchildren, Destiny, DJ and Zellanie. A Memorial Mass will be held at 12 noon on August 9, 2019 at Sacred Heart Church, 43775 Deep Canyon Rd., Palm Desert, CA 92260. All who knew her would know that Joanne would prefer those attending her Memorial Mass were colorful attire, no black. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to Sacred Heart Church.
