Alice Clara Brown
Alice Clara Brown, 96 Known for her infectious smile and sweet demeanor Alice Clara Brown (née Lockwood) passed away peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, June 5, 2019, at Willow Springs Rehabilitation Center in Brick, N.J., days after celebrating her 96th birthday surrounded by family and friends. Born and raised on Staten Island, Alice more recently lived in Sayreville, Brick, and Lakewood. Alice married her sweetheart Harold James Brown - who made her wait until his combat service in the European theater was completed - only one month after World War II ended in 1945. They subsequently shared 37 years of wedded bliss, and much couples-league bowling, until Harold's death in 1983. Since that time, Alice worked as a secretary, a retail clerk and a librarian, when she was not doting over her children and grandchildren or coordinating charity fund drives. Alice was known for an infectious smile and sweet demeanor, disarming all who met her with her open and innocent ways. Alice is survived by two children, James W. Brown and his wife, Virginia, of Germania, N.J., and Lanette Brown-Escovedo and her husband, Richard of Las Vegas, and two grandsons, James H. Brown and Collin A. Brown. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, June 25, 2019, at 10 a.m. at Osbornville Protestant Church, 588 Mantoloking Road, Brick. Colonial Funeral Home, Brick, is in charge of arrangements. Condolences can be sent to the family at www.colonialfuneralgroup.com .
