Monica Griffin Rudden
Monica Griffin Rudden, 86 Longtime S.I. resident and parishioner of Our Lady Star of the Sea Monica passed away peacefully at home in the care of her loving family on June 12, 2019. Monica was a longtime resident of Staten Island. She was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Jan. 27, 1933, and moved to Staten Island in May 1961. Monica was a lifelong parishioner of Our Lady Star of the Sea Parish, a place she treasured and considered her second home. For 20 years, she was an employee of the NYC Department of Education and Department of Youth Services, where she became the assistant director of personnel. Monica also served as a volunteer for children with disabilities for many years. Monica will be sadly missed and is survived by her children: Mary and Jim Murphy, John and Lynn Cassidy, Dennis Cassidy and David McCarthy, Donna and Bill Perk, Linda and Ed Moon, Brian Patrick Cassidy and Shannon Jones and Matthew Cassidy; her brother-in-law, Richard Pierce. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Jeanette Perk-Jacobson and Kevin Jacobson, Caitlin Ryan, Nicholas Moon, Jessica Perk-Alvarez and Eddy Alvarez, Patrick Ryan, Jillian Cassidy, Samantha Griffin Moon, Michael Cassidy, John Cassidy, Colleen Cassidy, Connor Cassidy, Maeve Cassidy, and Kerry Cassidy and her great-grandson: Cayden Landrum. Monica is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Monica was preceded in death by her husband, Peter Rudden; mother and father, Nora and Donald Griffin; sisters, Helen O'Gara, Kathleen Pierce, Patricia Griffin and Margaret Griffin. Visitation will be Thursday, June 13, from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals, Inc., 28 Eltingville Blvd., S.I. Mass of Christian Burial is at Our Lady Star of the Sea, 5411 Amboy Rd., Huguenot, on Friday, June 14 at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
