Lois Annette Chalker Askew
Lois Annette Chalker Askew, age 86, passed away peacefully June 9, 2019. She will be remembered as a teacher and professor in Georgia and Alabama for almost 50 years. She is preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Harlan D. Askew, two brothers, Virgil A. Chalker, and Frank N. Chalker. Lois knew at an early age that she wanted to be a teacher. She graduated Class Valedictorian of Marietta High School where she was called upon by the principal to help the teachers. Having graduated from Georgia State College for Women (A.B. Degrees) and Duke University (M.A. Degree in English), she devoted herself to teaching English, Speech, Debate and Drama, and writing books on debate and study skills, the Elizabethan age, and her Chalker heritage. She is survived by daughters Tara Emerson (Rick) of Eden Prairie, Minn., and Dara Johns (Randy) of Niceville, Fla., and grandchildren Rebecca, Victor, Shiloh, and Zach Johns; and Mason Emerson; and nephew Ron Chalker of Marietta, Ga. Lois will always be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother. Visitation will be at Winkenhofer Pine Ridge Funeral Home (2950 North Cobb Parkway, Kennesaw, GA), Saturday, June 15, at 10 a.m. A graveside burial service will follow at 11 a.m., at Shiloh United Methodist Church Cemetery, 3860 Cherokee St. N.W., Kennesaw, Ga.
