Dr. Jacob Gerstenfeld Staten Island ophthalmologist known for his compassion On Wednesday, June 5, 2019, my father, Dr. Jacob Gerstenfeld, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family. The funeral was in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., on June 7. Dr. Gerstenfeld was an ophthalmologist in private practice in Staten Island for 37 years from 1963 to 2000 at his office on Hylan Blvd. in Eltingville. He treated tens of thousands of patients during those years, restoring sight to the visually impaired and always being there for emergencies of any kind. He was beloved by his patients for his warm, caring and compassionate manner along with his superb skills as a surgeon. Dr. Gerstenfeld leaves behind an amazing legacy in Staten Island that will always endure. His family and friends are devastated by his loss. He is survived by his wife, Harriet; sons, David and Edward; their wives, Debra and Leslie; and his grandchildren, Jason, Rachel, Lori and Zach. May his memory be a blessing.
