Willis Franklin Ford
Willis Franklin Ford Oct. 5, 1932 - Sept. 24, 2018 Willis passed away after losing his battle with cancer Sept. 24, 2018. He died at home peacefully surrounded by his loving family. Willis was born in Pleasant Lake, Ind., to Lewis and Anna Ford. Willis graduated from Metz High School, in Metz, Ind., in 1950. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1950. He became a machinist for the Marines and was sent to Korea. After serving for two years he was honorably discharged from the Marines. Willis then used his G.I. benefits and enrolled at Ball State University, located in Muncie, Ind. Willis earned his teaching degree in 1956. Willis taught elementary school in Michigan, Indiana, California and Oregon. He taught for nearly 40 years. Willis also operated his own painting business for many years after teaching. Willis enjoyed wood working, gardening, crabbing, playing cribbage and the card game Hand and Foot. Willis was a lifetime member of the elks. Willis is survived by three sisters, Ella McClellan of Auburn, Ind.; Aileen Clark and Betty Krontz, both of Butler, Ind. Willis is also survived by his wife, Carol of Springfield, Ore., his four daughters, Kathy Newman of Springfield, Ore., Karen McCulley of Eugene, Ore., Julie Ford of Eugene, Ore., Cindy Senger of Sherwood, Ore.; and son, Steve Ford of Nampa, Idaho.
