Mary E. Koether Ms. Mary E. Koether, 89, died on May 13, 2019, in West Caldwell, N.J. A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 17, 2019, in Hinman Hall at Crane's Mill, West Caldwell, at 2 p.m. Born in East Orange, N.J., Ms. Koether lived in Verona, N.J., for 35 years before moving to West Caldwell in 1990. She graduated from Mount Holyoke College in 1951 with a B.A. in International Relations. She then worked as a member of the technical support staff in educational research for Bell Labs in Murray Hill, N.J., for 26 years. After retiring in 1989, Ms. Koether became an administrative manager of the New Jersey Governor's School in the Sciences at Drew University until 1999. She served as treasurer for the Alumnae Association of Mount Holyoke, president of the Northern New Jersey Mount Holyoke Club and was a Board Member of the Caldwell Chapter of the American Association of University Women. In 1981 Ms. Koether was awarded the Alumnae Medal of Honor from Mount Holyoke College. She was also president of the West Essex Art Association as well as the Crane's Mill Residents' Association and served as a deacon of the First Presbyterian Church of Verona. Ms. Koether was the aunt of Donna Leigh Currey and the late David P. Currey. In lieu of flowers, donations to Paws Inc. of Montclair, the Nature Conservancy of Pottersville, N.J., or the Good Samaritan Fund for Crane's Mill would be appreciated.
