Walter Ray Griego
Walter Ray Griego May 26, 1953 - Dec. 2, 2018 Walter Ray Griego died Sunday, Dec. 2, 2018. He was born in La Junta, Colo., and grew up in Commerce, Calif. He graduated from Bell Gardens H.S. and enlisted in the Navy and served during the Vietnam War. After the Navy he worked as a San Diego Life Guard and attended San Diego Miramar College; he earned an Assoc. Degree in Fire Science. In 1979, he accomplished his lifelong goal of becoming a Fire Fighter with San Diego Fire Department. He eventually relocated to Portland, Ore., where he worked and retired from Providence Health System. Walter traveled to many countries around the world. His passions included triathlons, swimming and water polo. He was a repeat gold medal winner at the Gay Olympic Games. Walter was preceded in death by his father, Adolpho; and brother, Phillip. In addition to his many close friends and famity in Portland, he is survived by his mother, Lola Lu Munoz; brother, Paul; sister, Frances Jean; and all of Arizona. His Celebration of Life Memorial will be held from 1 to 3 p.m., May 26, 2019, at the Portland Q Center, 4115 N. Mississippi Ave., Portland, OR.
