Richard B. Ahle Lifelong public servant; Navy vet, Union County police officer Richard B. Ahle, 87, of Garwood, N.J., passed away on Saturday, May 11, 2019, after a long illness. Visitation will be on Friday, May 17, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Walter Johnson Funeral Home, Clark, N.J. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 9:45 a.m. at St. Agnes Church, 332 Madison Hill Rd., Clark. A procession to Fairview Cemetery, Westfield, will follow. To offer condolences please visit www.walterjohnsonfh.com . Rich was a lifelong public servant. After graduating from Roselle Park High School in 1951, he enlisted in the United States Navy. He served as a corpsman and operating room technician during the Korean War until his honorable discharge in May of 1955. After that, he joined the Union County Police Department and served for over 27 years until his retirement in 1985. He also served as an officer in the PBA for his entire career. Rich is survived by his beloved wife of 38 years, Esther, and his children, Elaine and Kimberly. Rich had four grandchildren, Jonathan (predeceased), Timothy, Taylor, and Morgan and two great-grandchildren, Jade and Jonathan. He is also survived by five stepchildren, Phia, Stephen, Maria, Ralph, and Anne and seven step-grandchildren, James, Hannah, Tessa, Drew, Patrick, Kelli, and Stephen. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Center for Hope, 1900 Raritan Rd., Scotch Plains, N.J. 07076.
