Charles A. Hames Evansville, IN Charles A. Hames, of Mt. Vernon, IN, formerly of Evansville, passed away on Saturday, May 11, 2019 at Deaconess Hospital Midtown Campus. Charlie was born August 25, 1927 in Evansville to the late Charles W. and Marcella (Stallings) Hames of Mt. Vernon. Charlie was a former member of the Westside Nut Club and past president of the River Bend Association. He was a graduate of Mt. Vernon Senior High School, where he was inducted into the Mt. Vernon High School Athletic Hall of Fame. He attended Purdue University and was also a member of Salem United Methodist Church. During his lifetime, Charlie owned sporting goods stores in both Mt. Vernon and Evansville, as well as the former Koressel Paint Store on West Franklin Street. Charlie enjoyed participating in basketball, baseball and football during his youth; was an avid fan of both Indiana University and University of Evansville basketball and the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team. He also enjoyed fishing, golfing and cooking for his family and friends. Surviving Charlie are three sons, Steve (Patricia) Hames of O'Fallon, MO, Greg (Connie) Hames of Mt. Vernon, IN and Ben (Renee) Hames of Tempe, AZ; grandchildren, Amy Clark, Lee Ann Brown, Lisa Brown, Kelvin Hames, Maggie (Ben) Miller and Caleb Hames; four great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra Brown; granddaughter, Christine Hames and by wives, Virginia Hames in 2008 and Mildred Hames in 2011. Funeral services for Charlie will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, May 17, 2019 at Pierre Funeral Home, Dr. Franklin Dumond officiating. Burial will be held in Memorial Park Cemetery.
