Gordon Kirkland
Gordon Spencer Kirkland, 95 Devoted husband Gordon Spencer Kirkland, a devoted husband, passed away May 7, 2019, at the age of 95 in Staten Island, N.Y. Gordon was born on March 25, 1924, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to parents, Grover Cleveland Kirkland and Dorothy Tilton Roeth. He served in the Marine Corps during World War II and was an expert rifleman. After the war, he studied history at Brooklyn College where he met the love of his life, Ruth Barclay. They married in 1952 and were blessed with two sons, Bruce and Glenn Kirkland. He taught Social Studies at Willoughby Junior High School 162 in Brooklyn until his retirement. He was an American classic car enthusiast and enjoyed spending time at the Hershey Annual Car Show with his son and friends. He is survived by his loving wife, Ruth, and their two sons, Bruce and Glenn, as well as their many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will remain in our hearts, dearly missed and loved but never forgotten.
