Deborah Havard "Debby" Slater
Deborah "Debby" Ann Havard Slater was born September 6, 1962 and left this earthly life to spend eternity in heaven with our Lord Jesus Christ on April 29, 2019. She is survived by her children, Destin Barton (Austin Tilley) of Long Beach, MS, Michael Lee Slater (Hollie) Baton Rouge, LA, Jacob Slater of Pittsburg, PA, Dylan and Jasmine Slater of Hurley, MS; mother and step-father, Janice and Larry Crisco of Gautier, MS; sister, Kathy Lips of Escatawpa, MS; brother, James R. Havard of Gulfport, MS; grandsons, Dreygen and Lucian Tilley; granddaughter, Lillybeth Slater; along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Debby is also survived by a special nephew, Chad Delmas, who adored his Aunt Debby, and two very special cousins, Charlotte Keener and Stephanie Chisolm, who were faithful to be at her bedside during the last weeks of her life. She was preceded in death by her father, James A. Havard; grandparents, Katie and Albert Havard, and Josephine and Murdock Taylor; aunt, Wanda Coggins; and uncles, Butch, Ronnie, and Dewey Taylor. Debby was a loving mother, daughter, grandmother, and sister. She adored her children and grandchildren. It seemed that her aim in life was to see that her children had strong spiritual lives and were happy and successful. She graduated from Moss Point High School in 1979. After graduation, she attended college in Dallas, TX where she studied Fashion Merchandising. She later attended the University of South Alabama where she attained a 4.0 average and was accepted into Phi Eta Sigma. She will always be remembered for her loving kindness, beautiful smile, and her sparkling brown eyes. Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 2, 2019 from 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home in Moss Point, MS. Funeral service will begin at 1:30 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. David Aultman officiating. Interment will immediately follow at Serene Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Chad Delmas, Zachary Havard, David Keener, Wayne Dennis, Jason Chisolm, and Jason Hines. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the American Cancer Research Association. Heritage Funeral Home, locally owned and operated in Moss Point/Escatawpa, MS, is in charge of arrangements.
