Life-long South Bay resident, Kathleen "Kay" Finer passed away on March 2nd. Well-known across the community, Kay worked tirelessly to make the Peninsula a great place to live and work. Born to Rose and Lysle Becker, Kay grew up in Inglewood and attended Morningside High School and El Camino College. Kay launched her career in the fashion industry before taking time off to raise a family. For many years, Kay was involved with the City of Palos Verdes Estates, serving as a PVE Reserve officer, volunteering with the Malaga Cove Business Association, and organizing a Neighborhood Watch group. Kay was very involved with numerous nonprofit organizations, including Community Helpline, where she served as Director. She also served as President and CEO of the Palos Verdes Peninsula Chamber of Commerce from 2005 – 2010, where her energy and commitment was felt throughout Peninsula. She was a significant part of a great company the past 5 years, Cilajet, where she was able to work with her daughter everyday. Everyone at Cilajet became second family to her. Kay dedicated herself to promoting local businesses and the community. Known for her warm smile, high energy and hard work, Kay truly made a difference in the community which she loved. Kay's proudest achievement was her beloved daughter, Jessica, and her grandson Colt, who affectionately knew her as "Nonna". Kay is survived by her daughter Jessica, grandson Colt, niece Brandy and sister Terry. A vibrant and amazing woman, a powerhouse go-getter, and a loving friend, mother and grandmother, Kay will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, April 11 at 3pm at The Neighborhood Church in Palos Verdes Estates.
