Thomas B. "Tom" Carter Jr.
GALESBURG - Thomas B. "Tom" Carter Jr., 64, Galesburg, passed away at 11:31 p.m. Wednesday, March 13, 2018, at home. Tom was born June 7, 1954, in Moline, the son of Thomas B. and Cora Excine Walden Carter Sr. He married Mary "Linda" Burton Smith on April 29, 1989, in Galesburg. Tom is survived by his wife of 29 years, Linda; his sister, Linda G. (Tom) Doubleday of Galesburg; one niece; one great-niece; one great-nephew; two stepchildren; three stepgrandchildren and two stepgreat-grandchildren. He is also survived by several aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas B. Carter Sr. and Cora Excine Stranger. Thomas worked for Admiral/Maytag Corporation for 30 years, retiring in 2002. After retirement he worked for Water Works Car Wash for six years. He graduated from Abingdon High School in 1972. He attended Bethany Baptist Church in Galesburg. Thomas was the Union Steward with the AFLCIO Local Lodge 2063. He enjoyed fishing, watching NASCAR and listening to country oldies. Tom was an avid Alabama football fan and was an active participant in his high school class activities. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 19, 2019, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel, with the Rev. Tom Doubleday and Rev. John Carlson officiating. Visitation will be 10 to 11 a.m. at the chapel. Burial service will be in East Linwood Cemetery. Memorials may be made to OSF Hospice.
