Mary L. (Branson) Taylor
Mary L. (Branson) Taylor Nov. 24, 1932 - Feb. 11, 2019 Mary L. (Branson) Taylor was born in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho Nov. 24, 1932, and passed Feb. 11, 2019. She suffered from Alzheimer's Disease for many years, but passed peacefully and without pain. Mary graduated from University of Idaho in 1954 - with memberships in both Sigma Xi and Phi Beta Kappa. She received her doctorate from University of Illinois in 1959. Dr. Mary, as she was fondly known, was a Professor of Microbiology at Portland State University for over 37 years. Mary volunteered at local high schools to help science teachers, was active in her church, Lake Grove Presbyterian, as well as her local hiking group and Portland's arts. She served as The City of Durham's Mayor and later as a member of the City Council and City Planning Commission. She was passionate about nature and the environment. She was active in The Campfire Girls and many refer to her as The Nature Lady. She will be missed by those who could always count on her wise and caring ways. Mary is survived by her two children, Katherine Horton and Elizabeth Taylor; and her two grandchildren, Elizabeth and Taylor Horton. In 2003, Mary established the Mary (Branson) Taylor endowed scholarship in the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences Department at University of Idaho.
