Fred Simon Rancho Mirage - Fred Simon, loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather died in his home surrounded by his family on Monday March 4, 2019 at age 89. "Freddy" was born February 8, 1930 in Brooklyn, New York to Max and Mae Simon. As a proud New Yorker he developed his life long love of black and white cookies, Katz's Deli, Yonah Schimel's Knishes, and the New York Yankee's. He went on to become an integral part of building the foundation for Simon Property Group and led the Leasing Team helping to build a global and dynamic company. Although his years were spent living in New York, Indianapolis, and Chicago he and his wife Arline chose Rancho Mirage, CA. to spend the last 26 years of his incredible life. He leaves behind a legacy of philanthropic endeavors both locally and nationally including Big Brothers Big Sisters, The Jewish Federation and the founding of the Helene G. Simon Hillel Center at Indiana University. He found great joy and humor with all those who surrounded him. He loved poetry, the outdoors, theatre and yelling for, and at, his beloved Indiana Pacers, Chicago Cubs, New York Yankees and Indiana University Basketball. He will be most remembered for his devoted and affectionate nature, his deep love for his family, his whole body laugh, his bright blue eyes, practical jokes and his sharp wit. He is survived by his wife Arline Simon; his brother Herb Simon and his wife Bui; his children Shari Simon Greenberg, Linda Simon Bennett, Deborah Thompson Lee and John Thompson; his grandchildren Arline, Emma, Harrison, Jordan, Lillian, Madison, Megan, Ryan, Shelby, Taylor, and Tera; his great granddaughter Grace; and many loving and devoted nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Helene; his brother Melvin; his son Jeffrey; and his granddaughter Melanie. Services and internment were held in Palm Springs, CA on March 6th, 2019.
