In memory of
John W. "Jack" Neburka
John W. 'Jack' Neburka June 6, 1932 - March 3, 2019 John W. "Jack" Neburka died at home March 3, 2019, after suffering a fall. He was 86. He was born in Chicago June 6, 1932, the middle child and only son of the late William and Ruth Neburka. He served in the Navy during the Korean War and graduated from the University of Illinois in 1958. He and Linda Ramsey were married in 1959 in the University of Illinois Chapel, raised a family together, and divorced in 1979. Jack's professional life was spent in human resources and industrial labor relations. The "hotshot from Chicago" traveled the world negotiating labor agreements and settling labor disputes, taking his skis with him in the winter in case his travels took him anywhere near the mountains. He was a member of the Episcopal Church and sang bass in the choir for many years. He loved cars of all kinds, owning dozens over his lifetime. He moved to Portland, Ore., in 1994 and kept busy with a variety of jobs well into his retirement years. He enjoyed ballroom dancing and traveling with Nanci, visiting his old friends, reading, and spending time with his children and granddaughters. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Betty Knobeloch and JoAnn Haley; and leaves behind his daughter, Julie Neburka (Sandie Peters); son, Bill Neburka (Rachel Dumont); granddaughters, Mae and Beatrice Neburka; and beloved friend, Nanci Shaughnessey. No service will be held. Memorial donations may be made to any hospice organization, or you can remember Jack, as we do, whenever you see a handsome man in a fast car.
