Anderson, SC Alvin Lamar Evans, 89, passed away Friday, March 1, 2019, at Richard M. Campbell Veterans Nursing Home. Born in Anderson, SC, he was the son of the late Clarence Mason and Dorcas Constance Ginn Evans. He was a U.S. Army Veteran during the Korean War serving as a Medic. Mr. Evans was a retired mail carrier with the U.S. Postal Service. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Anderson, where he had served as a Deacon and Sunday School Teacher. Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Lucille S. Evans; daughter, Dene McCain and husband, Mark of Beaufort; grandson, Jared L. Burgess; son-in-law, Rickey Burgess and wife, Kim; two sisters, Sharlene Burnette and husband, Bobby and Sarelle McKinley, all of Anderson; and a brother, Johnny L. Evans and wife, Pat of Chesapeake, VA. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Dianne Burgess; sister, Louise Bryan; and a brother, Lawrence B. “Lucky” Evans. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, March 4, at First Baptist Church conducted by Dr. Josh Hunt. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. Sunday at Sullivan-King Mortuary. The family is at the residence. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church Music Department, 307 South Manning Street, Anderson, SC 29624; Patriot Hospice, 101 Grace Drive, Easley, SC 29640; or the Alzheimer’s Association, 4124 Clemson Boulevard, Suite L, Anderson, SC 29621.
