Toby B. Feinstein
Toby B. Feinstein, 92, died on February 8, 2019. Born on October 22, 1926, the daughter of the late Harry and Ida Berger, Toby grew up in Mattapan and Dorchester, attending local schools and enjoying summers at Nantasket Beach with her family. A graduate of Boston University College of Liberal Arts, Toby worked as a social worker for the Boston Jewish Vocational Service, assisting new Americans settle into their new world. She married Paul Rechtschafer and moved to West Hartford, CT, where they built a vending machine business and a residential real estate business. Widowed in 1969, she remarried Abraham B. Feinstein in 1972 and moved to Longmeadow, MA. Toby was an active member of Temple Beth El in Springfield, MA, where she was a co-chair of the sisterhood Torah Fund committee for many years raising funds for the Jewish Theological Seminary. Toby is survived by her daughter Joan (Rechtschafer) Brooslin, (Michael), and stepchildren Lauren Pearl (Jeff), Scott Feinstein and Michele Feinstein, three grandchildren Alison Brooslin, Edward Pearl and Lisa Pearl, her nephews William Snapper, Howard Snapper, niece Lori Snapper Becker, nephews Charles Feinstein and Michael Feinstein, and niece Valerie Frost-Lewis. She was predeceased by her first husband Paul Rechtschafer, her second husband Abraham B. Feinstein, and her sister Dorothy (Lou) Snapper. A graveside service was held at Beth El Cemetery in West Springfield, MA. Shiva services will be held on Monday February 11, 2019 at Temple Beth El. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory can be made to Temple Beth El, 979 Dickinson Street, Springfield MA 01108 to benefit the Torah Fund of the Sisterhood, or Spectrum Home Health and Hospice, 770 Converse Street, Longmeadow, MA. The Ascher-Zimmerman Funeral Home is assisting the family.
