Clair E. Knappenberger
Clair E. Knappenberger Sr., 91, of Burrell Township, passed away Sunday, Feb. 10, 2019, in QLS- West Haven Manor, Washington Township. Born July 16, 1927, in Burrell Township, he was a son of the late John M. and Daisy (Uncapher) Knappenberger. Clair lived in Burrell Township all of his life, and served our country with the Army from 1945-1948, stationed in Germany. He worked as a chipper for Wean United for 24 years, retiring in 1980. Clair was a member of St. Paul's Highfield Lutheran Church. He loved working on his farm. In addition to his parents, Clair was preceded in death by his brothers, John, Murray, Paul, Earl, Verle and Albert Knappenberger; and his sisters, Ethel Schwoegin, Rosina Linsenbigler, Lucy Klingensmith, Verde Scott, and Edna Shupe. Clair is survived by his wife of 70 years, Helen R. (Beck) Knappenberger; daughters, Valjean Barnett, of Silver Creek, Ga., and Ilene (Steve) Hillegass, of Burrell Township; son, Clair E. (Katie) Knappenberger Jr., of Cabot; grandchildren, Kathye (Kevin) Porter, Donnie King, Jody (Kiley) Hillegass, and Robby King; great-grandchildren, Christopher, Sydnee, Owen, Molly, and Jaelyn; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2019, in the CURRAN-SHAFFER FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY INC., 100 Owens View Ave., Apollo. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 14, 2019, in the funeral home, with Pastor Ryan Pusch officiating. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery, Spring Church.
