Charlotte Bast New City - Charlotte Bast (nee Schmitt), of New City, died suddenly on February 7, 2019 at the age 84. Charlotte, a New City resident since 1966, was a longtime employee of the NY Telephone Company in Manhattan as a Senior Compensation Director. She was an energetic, independent, determined woman and a steadfast friend to many. Her contagious smile warmed many hearts. Charlotte is survived by her beloved friend Mary Jane, her husband Joe and their children Terrence, Denis, Julia, Joseph and grandson Nolan as well as her nephew John, his wife Maureen and nephew Thomas Bast and cousins Madeline Messina and Helen Payne. She was predeceased in death by her husband of 44 years, Peter H. Bast. Peter met Charlotte when he came to America from Holland in 1959. They shared a passion for traveling, nature as well as a love for animals, especially her cats. Charlotte had a keen sense of style and loved to explore and volunteer at many of the area's thrift shops. Charlotte was an active member of the St. Francis Seniors, which kept her very busy in her later years; she greatly cherished these wonderful friendships and memories. Friends may visit on Tuesday, February 12th from 3 to 7 p.m., at the Joseph W. Source Funeral Home 728 West Nyack Road, West Nyack.
